"Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don’t settle."

“A hui hou kakou malama pono”

I finally got to see Hawaii… My parents and I took a week long trip out to Maui. It was a much needed getaway, all expenses paid for by my loving parents. I really am lucky to have them.

We stayed at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa in Lahaina, the resort was so beautiful!! The pool was huge with waterfalls and a Grotto Bar in the middle and just a few steps away from the beach.

    Day 1

After my parents picked me up from the airport I had breakfast at the Swan Court, the restaurant opened out into a pond with swans and flamingos.

My mom really wanted to participate in this lei making class, she didn’t sign up in advance and threw a little mini fit to the concierge guy and he was able to get us some extra flowers so we could participate. She was very excited. It was fun and pretty simple to do.

Later that evening we attended the Drums of the Pacific Luau at the Hyatt. The food was so good!! Especially the mango salad. Your ticket includes the show, dinner and open bar. Since I was surrounded by couples and my parents I was pretty much the only person they did an ID check for and they placed a huge “over 21” stamp on my hand too. The show was great! The music, stories, hula dances and fire dances!!! My Dad and I were also called up on stage to learn the hukilau. Very embarrassing but my Dad loved it… In the end we took pictures with the dances, while walking up to them my Dad says “go take a picture with that handsome boy” and pushes me into the sweaty Hawaiian boy dancer.

    Day 2

I took a long run out along the resort area, it was such a beautiful run I actually just wanted to keep going! We spent most the day checking out the surrounding area, lounging on the beach/pool and shopping.

    Day 3

We set sail on the Alii Nui to go snorkeling by Molokini Crater, ranked one of the top 10 dive/snorkel places in the world. It has excellent visibility as deep as 150 feet. The water is crazy clear. I wish I had more pictures but it was pretty hard to capture pictures in the water..Here are a few I found online so you can get the idea of what it was like.

Snorkeling was fun, but the water was pretty rough and I got sick towards the end. It was really scary to see how deep the water was, I could see all the waaayy down!! Such beautiful coral reefs and fishes! My Mom doesn’t know how to swim at all so she was scared the entire time! With a wet suit on, two flotation devices she would still freak out. As much as I wanted to stay with her she kept using me as a flotation device which really wasn’t working out for me since she would just push me down into the water.

The Alii Nui boat was great, you get breakfast on the way to Molokini and after snorkeling you get lunch and up to 3 alcoholic beverages. I got sick on the way back so I skipped out on this part. They even had a full on photo/video crew on board to capture your day out in the sea.

At night my parents and I ate at Lahaina Grill.  This place was AMAZING!!!! I had the Pink Snapper with Risotto .. (ahh drool..) The best fish dish I had EVER HAD!!

..I look at this picture and I just get so sad that I won’t get to have that delicious meal again for a long time =(. Of course I had to get the fries…

After dinner we strolled along Front street which reminded me of Pier 39 and the Monterey Wharf.

    Day 4

We woke up super early to take a ride out to Hana..

My Dad said…”So you ready for the road to Hana… Montana..” (eyes roll)

I was warned by friends that this is one crazy, super twisty road. There are approximately 620 curves along the very winding highway and 49 one-lane bridges. You drive through tropical rain forests, bamboo forests and many waterfalls to check out. You also get a chance to see black sand beaches, various fruit huts, caves, amazing trees, beautiful flowers and there’s also a winery towards the end! This took us a little over 12 hours from start to end.

The drive wasn’t that bad, it was very narrow and zigzaggy.. sometimes bumpy but it wasn’t as crazy as I had thought it was going to be. The drive from Bulacan, Philippines to Bicol was waaay crazier than the road to Hana.

This was my favorite day of the trip. Being in a rain forest, walking through caves to find beautiful beaches, seeing the sun shine through bamboo forests and climbing to get to pools that lead to beautiful waterfalls!! Everywhere you looked was just so beautiful and calm.

Climbing to this spot was crazy…

    Rainbow Eucalyptus trees

Crazy spider at the Banana Bread stop

    Day 5

Ziplining with my Daddios! I am probably the biggest weeny when it comes to roller coasters and anything with heights LOL. I really wanted to try this activity and my Dad was up for it too. It was a lot of fun but oh man was I scared!! My Dad loved it, he would run and jump off the line and he was always willing to go first in our group.

I had a great time in Hawaii!! I can’t wait to go back!! It was a great experience and a wonderful way to get away.

    Until next time!!
